🦷 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Parkland Smile Initiative?
Parkland Smile Initiative (PSI) is a registered non-profit based in Regina, Saskatchewan. We deliver free dental health education to elementary school classrooms, starting with Grade 1 students. Our goal is to expand access to dental care and support the training of future dental therapists committed to serving underserved communities.
Who is the program for?
Our current program is focused on Grade 1 students in Regina, Saskatchewan.
What happens during a classroom visit?
Each session is about 30 minutes long and includes a fun, interactive dental health lesson led by a trained educator. Students receive a Smile Kit with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and take-home materials for caregivers.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Our program is entirely free for schools, students, and families.
What is a Smile Kit?
Smile Kits include a toothbrush, toothpaste, and age-appropriate dental health resources—including information about the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), which may help families access free dental services.
Why is this program focused on Grade 1 students?
Grade 1 is a critical time for building independent habits. Many children are brushing their own teeth by this age, and early reinforcement of good oral hygiene can set the tone for a lifetime of healthier smiles.
Is this a government program?
No. Parkland Smile Initiative is an independent, community-based, registered nonprofit. We are not affiliated with government programs but often share public resources like the CDCP to support families.
How is this program funded?
We rely on donations, grants, and community partnerships to operate. If you’d like to support our work, please visit our Contact page or our Donate link on the website.

Who teaches the dental health lessons?
Lessons are taught by a trained educator. Our program content is reviewed in consultation with dental professionals to ensure it’s accurate, appropriate, and effective.
Can I book a session for my classroom?
If you are a Grade 1 teacher in Regina, you can sign up your class here. If you’re outside Regina, stay tuned—we’re hoping to expand in the future.
Do you offer dental treatment?
Not at this time. Our current focus is education and outreach. In the future (2028), we plan to support licensed dental therapists to provide mobile care through a PSI-operated dental unit.
Why is servant leadership part of your mission?
At PSI, we believe that real change is built through service, not status. Servant leadership means prioritizing the needs of others and leading by example—values we want to instill in the next generation of healthcare providers. Learn more about our approach to Servant Leadership.

Can PSI work with my organization, clinic, or nonprofit?
Possibly! We’re always open to meaningful partnerships that help expand access to dental care and education. Reach out through our Contact page and let’s talk.
Is PSI looking for volunteers or board members?
